For College & University Educators
Connect Your Curriculum to Climate Science
Whether you teach sustainability directly or want to integrate climate topics into your broader subject area, our workshops provide an evidence-based, engaging format to explain climate change science.
Leverage Open Source, Experiental Learning
Add a unique collaborative component to your course that helps students visualize complex climate systems. The Climate Fresk workshop uses a Creative Commons license and is available in over 45 languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Hindu and others.
Cultivate Climate Communicators
Transform interested students into effective climate communicators and advocates. Our short, affordable facilitation training is the first step on a journey for teaching assistants and motivated students to lead workshops themselves, creating a multiplier effect across your campus.
Experience the workshop yourself first to assess its fit for your curriculum needs. We offer flexible implementation options, including training you & your teaching assistants to facilitate, or bringing our external facilitators to your classroom.
For Campus Sustainability Staff
As campus sustainability leaders, you're constantly seeking impactful ways to engage your university community.
Our Climate Fresk workshops offer:
  • Trustworthy, facilitator-led climate education experiences backed by data from the IPCC
  • Flexible programming that requires minimal resources to implement
  • Strategic partnership with an established climate education organization to amplify your sustainability initiatives
  • Opportunities to identify and develop student climate leaders on your campus
Our workshops complement existing sustainability programming while providing a structured, evidence-based approach to climate education that resonates with diverse campus audiences.
Workshop Formats to Fit Your Needs
One-Hour Climate Quiz Session
Perfect for sustainability events or initial outreach. This abbreviated format uses an engaging quiz to assess interest and introduce key concepts. We bring visual materials focused on the Canadian context to spark discussion. Ideal for:
  • First-year orientation events
  • Sustainability or climate event programming
  • Department open houses
Full Climate Fresk Workshop
(2.5-3 hours)
Our comprehensive, immersive experience where students collectively discover climate science through collaborative problem-solving. All we need is a room with rectangular tables. The workshop can be tailored to:
  • Address specific course content
  • Fit within class scheduling constraints
  • Focus on areas of particular interest to your students
Both formats are facilitated by trained Climate Literacy Project facilitators.
We can also support tabling at campus events to generate interest for future full workshops.
Pedagogical Impact: Beyond Climate Facts
Our workshops go beyond simply transmitting information. With cause-and-effect mapping, students actively discover the science and solutions behind climate change using a collaborative learning process.
Scientific Literacy
Students gain the knowledge to combat climate disinformation with evidence-based understanding of complex climate systems.
Collaborative Skills
The workshop format encourages dialogue, active listening, and collective problem-solving.
Critical Thinking
Participants develop analytical abilities by making connections between different aspects of climate science and identifying causal relationships.
Transforming Climate Anxiety Into Action
Many students experience eco-anxiety when confronted with climate change information. Our workshops provide a structured framework that transforms overwhelming feelings into:
Understanding Through Systems Thinking
By visualizing the entire climate system, students gain a sense of comprehension that reduces helplessness.
Actionable Knowledge
Workshop discussions naturally lead to solution-oriented thinking.
Community Building
Sharing the learning experience creates connections and support networks that continue beyond the workshop.
The Climate Fresk approach helps students move from climate despair to becoming engaged climate communicators. By understanding the science, they gain confidence to discuss these issues accurately with peers, family, and in their future careers.
Trusted by Leading Institutions
Climate Fresk workshops are being implemented at prestigious universities and colleges across Canada.
Our methodology is endorsed by faculty across diverse disciplines:
"I've integrated the Climate Fresk workshop into my introductory climate change course at the University of Toronto. It provides undergraduate students with an accessible yet rigorous understanding of climate science fundamentals."
Dr. Steve Easterbrook, PhD
Director, School of the Environment
Professor, Department of Computer Science
University of Toronto
"My graduate students studying the climate crisis particularly benefit from learning to be facilitators of the workshop. It complements our theoretical discussions with hands-on action."
Dr. Laura Tozer, PhD
Assistant Professor, Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences
University of Toronto Scarborough
"I offered the workshop in my IT class. Despite the intellectual and moral challenge for students, they were adamant about making the workshop part of future year classes. "
Michael Anderson, M.Eng, P.Eng
Professor, ICT Department Algonquin College School of Advanced Technology
"Our graduate and medical students greatly enjoyed the climate fresk we held in the Faculty of Medicine.  It was really effective in showing the interrelated nature of climate change drivers and impacts and highlighted the importance of adaptation in addition to mitigation measures to climate change, in only three hours’ time."
Dr. Manisha Kulkarni, PhD
Professor, School of Epidemiology and Public Health
University of Ottawa
Implementation Made Simple
We've designed our program to minimize barriers to implementation while maximizing educational impact. Here's how it works:
Experience a Workshop
Faculty and staff can participate in a demonstration workshop to understand the methodology and assess its fit for their needs.
Choose Your Implementation Model
Decide whether you'd like external facilitation from our team or training to facilitate internally. All participants have the opportunity to become facilitators after having experienced a workshop.
Schedule and Customize
We'll work with you to find the right timing and format, adapting content emphasis to align with your curriculum or sustainability goals.
Receive Ongoing Support
Access our community of practice, additional resources, and consultation as you integrate climate literacy in individual courses or across campus.
The Climate Fresk workshop materials are available under a Creative Commons license in over 45 languages, making them accessible for diverse campus communities.
Frequently Asked Questions
What physical resources are needed to host a workshop?
The workshop requires minimal setup – just a room with rectangular tables large enough for 4-8 participants per table, plus wall space or boards for solutions brainstorming. We provide all cards and materials needed for the activities.
How much does it cost?
The Climate Fresk workshop is offered free of charge in universities and colleges where volunteer facilitators are available. Per participant fee is $12 if not. Training for students & educators is $ 35 to $60. We are raising charitable funding to support free facilitation and training of students & faculty.
Is the content suitable for non-science students?
Absolutely! The workshop is designed to be accessible to participants from any academic background. We've successfully conducted sessions with students in business, engineering, social sciences, and more. The collaborative nature allows participants to support each other's learning.
How does this complement existing sustainability initiatives?
Climate Fresk workshops provide a foundational understanding that enhances other sustainability programming. Campuses in Europe use our workshops as entry points to comprehensive climate action strategies.
